Wheatear Stitch and Variations
Wheatear Stitch * Wheatear Stitch Fill
Wheatear stitch. Create straight stitches from A to B and from C to B. Come up at D to create a reverse detached chain stitch, weaving under both original stitches, and go back down at D. Recreate the original two stitches, this time converging at the base of the chain stitch at D. The next chain stitch will weave under these straight stitches and the previous chain stitch. Continue to make a chain of stitches.
Wheatear fill. Use wheatear stitch to create leaves with serrated edges. Work the stitches loosely to leave delicate gaps or tightly to cover the fabric. Begin with a straight stitch down the center from A to B. Come up at C to create a reverse detached chain stitch, weaving under the original stitch. Create straight stitches from D to C and from F to C. Make another reverse chain stitch, weaving under these straight stitches and the previous chain stitch. Repeat, filling down the shape.
