French Knots and Variations

French Knot * Pistil Stitch

French knot. Wrap the thread around the needle and then place the tip of the needle back down to the surface of the fabric, near or at the exit point. Next pull the thread away and down to drive the wrap down to the tip of the needle, so it rests on the fabric surface. Push the needle through to complete the knot. Practice with a single wrap as will be the easiest knot to pull through. Wrap the thread around the needle one to three times or use a different thread thickness to change the size of the knot.

Pistil stitch. Come up at A and wrap the thread around your needle twice before placing the tip down at B. Pull the thread, tightening the stitch and bringing the wrap down to the surface of the fabric. Push the needle through the knot to complete.
